Building AI Readiness in Bicol: bneXt Innovation Academy and ADNU ICTC Expand Access to Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries, transform workplaces, and influence decision-making across sectors, the need for accessible and practical AI education has never been greater. Responding to this demand, bneXt Innovation Academy successfully delivered the Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900) Program in partnership with the Ateneo de Naga University Information and Communications Technology Center(ADNU ICTC), expanding access to globally recognized AI learning opportunities for professionals, educators, and students across the Bicol Region.

Conducted virtually on May 16, 2026, the program brought together participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, including representatives from higher education institutions, private organizations, and independent professionals. While many attendees came from across the Bicol Region, the program also attracted participants from outside the region, reflecting growing interest in structured AI learningpathways and industry-recognized technology education.

More than a single training event, the initiative represents a broader effort to strengthen AI literacy and digital readiness within regional communities and help ensure that opportunities created by emerging technologies remain accessible beyond major metropolitan centers.

Expanding Access to Microsoft's AI Learning Ecosystem

Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals serves as an introductory learning pathway designed to help learners understand the foundations of artificial intelligence and the growing ecosystem of AI-powered solutions available through Microsoft technologies.

Through the program, participants explored key concepts including artificial intelligence workloads, generative AI, AI agents, natural language processing, speech technologies, computer vision, information extraction solutions, and responsible AI practices.

The session also introduced learners to Microsoft Foundry, Microsoft's platform for building AI-powered applications and agents, providing valuable exposure to technologies that are increasingly shaping how organizations innovate, automate processes, and enhance productivity.

Designed as a foundational awareness-building program rather than a developer-focused technical workshop, the course focused on helping participants understand how AI works, where it delivers value, and how organizations can begin exploring AI solutions responsibly and strategically.

For many attendees, the program represented their first structured introduction to Microsoft's AI ecosystem and Azure-based AI services, creating a solid foundation for future certifications, advanced learning pathways, and deeper technical exploration.

Strong Engagement Reflects Growing Demand for AI Capability Building

Participant feedback demonstrated strong interest in AI capability development, with attendees identifying Microsoft Azure AI Services, Microsoft Foundry, speech technologies, and practical AI applications as among the most valuable topics covered during the program. Many participants shared that the session expanded their understanding of emerging AI technologies and provided a clearer view of how artificial intelligence can be applied within academic, professional, and organizational settings.

The program also revealed an encouraging trend: learners are moving beyond curiosity and actively seeking structured pathways to build AI skills and credentials. When participants were asked which Microsoft certification pathway they would like to pursue next, Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals (DP-900) emerged as the most requested option, signaling growing interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence, analytics, cloud technologies, and data-driven decision-making.

These results reinforce a broader shift occurring across industries and institutions: organizations increasingly recognize that AI literacy is becoming an essential professional competency rather than a specialized technical skill.

Listening, Learning, and Evolving

Participant feedback also provided valuable insights for future program development.

Several attendees expressed interest in additional hands-on activities, deeper Azure platform exploration, guided demonstrations, and more immersive learning experiences. These recommendations reflect a healthy and encouraging outcome: participants are not only interested in understanding AI concepts but are eager to explore how these technologies can be applied in real-world scenarios.

As an inaugural offering, the program was intentionally designed to establish foundational knowledge while maintaining accessibility and affordability for learners entering the AI space. The feedback gathered from this first cohort will help shape future iterations of the program, including opportunities for expanded workshop components, guided labs, applied AI exercises, and deeper exploration of Microsoft Azure services.

Rather than highlighting a limitation, the feedback demonstrates growing demand for more advanced AI capability-building initiatives and validates the increasing appetite for practical AI skills development within the region.

Advancing a Broader Vision for AI Readiness

The initiative was spearheaded by Ken Masuhay, Business Unit Head of bneXt Innovation Academy, whose work focuses on helping organizations, educational institutions, and communities build the technology and AI capabilities needed to thrive in an increasingly digital and innovation-driven world.

Through collaborations with universities, enterprises, professional organizations, and government stakeholders, bneXt Innovation Academy continues to bridge globally recognized technology learning pathways with local workforce development needs, helping learners gain access to relevant, future-focused skills.

"Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming a core professional skill. The challenge is no longer awareness. The challenge is capability. Our mission is to help learners, educators, professionals, and organizations gain a practical understanding of AI so they can use it responsibly, confidently, and strategically. Every training program we deliver is part of a broader effort to make world-class technology education more accessible across the Philippines."

The successful collaboration with ADNU ICTC demonstrates how academic institutions and industry training partners can work together to strengthen AI literacy, expand access to emerging technologies, and prepare learners for the demands of an increasingly AI-driven economy.

Looking Ahead

Building on the success of the inaugural run, bneXt Innovation Academy is exploring additional Microsoft learning pathways and AI capability-building initiatives for professionals, educators, students, government teams, and enterprise organizations.

Future programs may include certification-focused training in data analytics, cloud computing, cybersecurity, productivity AI, and applied artificial intelligence, helping learners progress from foundational awareness to practical implementation and organizational adoption.

Beyond the successful completion of the program itself, this milestone reflects a larger reality: AI capability development is no longer a future requirement. It is a present-day necessity for individuals and organizations seeking to remain competitive, innovative, and resilient in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform how people work, learn, and lead, bneXt Innovation Academy remains committed to empowering communities through transformative learning experiences and strengthening its role as a trusted partner in technology, digital transformation, and AI capability development across the Philippines.
